Let’s Play!

Inspired by stories about adventuresome souls, I took a leap of faith and spent six weeks in Norway without a planned agenda. Two months later I repeated the unplanned adventure for a month in Hawaii. Mystery unfolded delightfully as I simply became willing to listen to and follow where my heart led me. I couldn’t have possibly planned the grand adventures I experienced and the strengths that I discovered within myself. I became more willing to try unusual things. In the end, I came home a changed person, more resilient, more content, more confident, more joyful, and with a newfound eagerness to share my love of life with others.

An Invitation to Contribute

Now to honor those who inspired me, I want to “pay it forward” by sharing a collection of adventuresome anecdotes about exploring the call of our hearts. I believe that when we see ourselves as willing and able to break free of self-imposed restrictions, to lean into the mystery, to show up for whatever is next, then share those experiences, we taste freedom both for ourselves and one another.

Are you interested in playing together in collective sharing of our open-hearted adventures? My heartfelt intention is to collaborate with contributors on my blog, Play with an Open Heart, and eventually to publish a book of selected contributions. I’d love your participation. I invite you to email to openheartedplaybook.com an original writing of approximately 800 to 1500 words, either of your own adventure or someone close that you admire.

Think of a time where you, or someone you know, followed one’s heart into a whole new world, whatever that means to you. If the story is that of someone who is unable to provide their own comment on the impact of their life, please tell us how their story inspired you.

Some writing prompts are offered below to prime your memory and invite your stories to flow. Maybe read them to yourself and then listen to your heart’s response. • What was something that at first seemed terrible then ended up being a breakthrough unlocking one or more wonderful experiences?

• When did you turn a longing into adventuresome action?

• What is one thing you want to have completed, one place you want to have visited, one special person you want to spend time with or an experience you want to participate in before the end of your life?
